Karl Schieneman Biography
Mr. Schieneman is a serial entrepreneur specializing in the legal field. He is the founders of 1-2-3 Law Group, one of the first virtual law firms in the country.
Mr. Schieneman has fourteen years of experience in the legal field as an attorney and a legal staffing expert. He formed Legal Network, a legal staffing company with operations in Pittsburgh and Cleveland which was ranked on the Inc. 500 list for fastest growing companies in the country in 2001, 2003 and 2004, won the Pittsburgh Business Times Pittsburgh 100 as the fastest growing services company in Pittsburgh in 2001 and 2004, and won a People Matter Award in 2003 for HR Excellence. Legal Network was purchased in 2004 by Special Counsel, a global legal staffing company owned by MPS Group where Karl was a Vice President until June 2007 and was a President’s Club winner in 2006 for making Pittsburgh Special Counsel’s fastest growing location. Karl continues to assist Special Counsel as an outside consultant in the field of electronic discovery.
Karl is part owner and founder of Professional Closing Network, a former division of Legal Network which manages attorney staffed real estate closings and ancillary services nationally. Professional Closing Network is the leader in its field of managing attorney closings and is one of the fastest growing companies in the country. Karl is part owner and founder of Streaming Placements, a video interviewing company focusing on the hiring of law students.
Karl also founded Entrepreneurial Lifelines , a free mentoring service for start up businesses in Western Pennsylvania which matches established entrepreneurs with start up businesses. Karl also helped to launch DevHouse Pittsburgh, a vehicle to network software developers and strengthen Pittsburgh’s hi-tech community. Awards he has won include the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year (2004), YEO Entrepreneur of the Year 2003, and has been cited as a Fast Tracker in 2003 (Pittsburgh Business Times) and Pace Setter in 2004 (SBN Magazine) for Western Pennsylvania.
Karl is a national expert in electronic discovery and electronic records management. He is also a frequent speaker nationally on topics related to legal staffing and electronic discovery and hosts a quarterly national audio broadcast for BNA on these topics as a special consultant for Special Counsel. He has written numerous articles and book chapters on this topic. He also practiced law for five years at Marcus & Shapira a Pittsburgh law firm involved in national securities and fraud litigation and worked as a Big 5 Accountant at Price Waterhouse where he won the Pittsburgh office’s Client Service award. He has a dual degree MBA / JD from Carnegie Mellon University and the University Of Pittsburgh School Of Law where he graduated Cum Laude and on Law Review. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Massachusetts in Amherst with a BBA in Marketing where he was recognized with an alumni award as the top marketing student.
Karl has served on the Rivers Club Board of Directors since the Spring of 2005. He is a frequent speaker on entrepreneurship in Pittsburgh and in 2007 was held prisoner for the March of Dimes assisting them in their most successful fund raising effort to date raising over $40,000 on behalf of premature childbirth and the related health issues affecting babies.
