Spencer Hirshberg Biography
Admitted to the Bar in 1975, Spencer D. Hirshberg is a graduate of Dartmouth College and Duquesne University School of Law. While in law school, he worked as a law clerk at the Pittsburgh law firm of Meyer, Darragh, Buckler, Bebenek and Eck. After graduation, he became a partner and head of its real estate department. In 1986, he left to form the law firm of Pietragallo, Bosick & Gordon, where he served as partner in charge of the real estate section until the formation of Hirshberg, Gustine, Straka & Orie in 1996.
Mr Hirshberg was the founder, President and General Counsel to Barristers Land Abstract Co., a joint venture with Howard Hanna Real Estate Services. This title insurance agency was one of the most active title insurance agencies in Western Pennsylvania. He also represented Howard Hanna Real Estate Services, Howard Hanna Financial Services, other local banks, mortgage bankers and brokers, including, PNC, Chase Manhattan, Fidelity Bank, Troy Hill and ESB Banks, Workingmens Savings Bank, Allegheny Valley Bank of Pittsburgh, National City Bank and, its predecessors, Integra and Equibank.
In the course of his practice, he has conducted or supervised more than 20,000 residential and commercial real estate settlements, and prepared or supervised the preparation of the loan documentation for these loans. He has been involved in every aspect of drafting, negotiating and enforcing commercial and residential loan documentation. Representative clients also include local builders, developers and operators of commercial estate. He has conducted seminars and training programs for title insurance and real estate settlement practitioners, and has created and implemented computerized solutions to real estate settlement and title procedures. He is a licensed title insurance agent representing Chicago Title, Lawyers Title and Stewart Title Insurance Company.
Mr. Hirshberg is a member of the Mortgage Bankers Association of Western Pennsylvania, the Western Pennsylvania League of Financial Institutions, the Builders Association of Western Pennsylvania, the North Suburban Builders’ Association, the American Bar Association, the Pennsylvania Bar Association and the Allegheny County Bar Association where Mr. Hirshberg serves on the Lawyer-Realtor Committee. He is also a licensed real estate broker and mortgage broker. He has been awarded the “AV” rating by the Martindale Hubbell Company, its highest rating given to attorneys.
